The Cats The Musical is currently the second longest-running show in Broadway history as well as the fourth longest working show inside history of musical theater. It initially opened in the West End in 1981 and then made its way to Broadway by 1982. The musical has won numerous awards over the many years such as the Tony award for best musical. It was broadcast on a massive screen at Covent Garden to permit for fans that could not buy a ticket for the final performance. Although it held the record as London’s longest-running musical for a very long time, it was surpassed in 2006 by the extremely well-liked play Les Miserables.

The American performances of “Cats” ended in 2000 after a total of 7,485 performances. It held the longest running musical in Broadway history until 2006 when the Phantom Of The Opera took its place. Nevertheless, it still remains the second longest-running showt in Broadway history to this day. It has also been a well-known hit in quite a few other countries which include France, Taiwan, Poland, Brazil and many other places around the globe.
