Yaz and Side Effects

Though modern birth control products have been around for decades, and oral contraceptive pills have been around for more than a half century, the world of these newer generation hormone-based birth control products is apparently not entirely safe. During the past few years, a fourth generation oral contraceptive named Yasmin, also known as Yaz in a similar pill, has created serious health problems for some women taking them. Though Yaz and Yasmin birth control and the generic Ocella, are only available by prescription, side effects related to the drug have adversely affected thousands of otherwise healthy women in numerous ways.
And while it is not unusual for prescription medications to have side effects, generally, these side effects are supposed to be minor, or at any rate less dangerous than the treatment they are intended for. However, during the past 10 years, there have been many drugs that fail this test, causing all types of dangerous side effects that are far more harmful than the conditions they were designed to treat.
Yasmin birth control side effects include many serious and dangerous afflictions that can have lifelong effects on the women who develop them. Here are some of the more significant ones.
Yaz Gallbladder Disease
There are two serious Yaz side effects and the first one is gallbladder disease. Though gallbladder disease does statistically afflict women at twice the rate that it does men, it is also generally a hereditary disease. This means that most women who get it have a family history of the disease in their genealogy. With many of the Yaz lawsuits being filed, it is becoming clear that women with no family history of gallbladder disease are becoming afflicted with it after starting to use Yasmin and Yaz birth control. One of the few medical treatments for gallbladder disease is the surgical removal of the gallbladder.
Blood Clots, Heart Problems, Chest Pains and Respiratory Difficulties
The other potentially life-threatening side effect of Yaz and Yasmin is that some women develop severe blood clots. Blood clots can cause brain hemorrhages, strokes, heart attacks, liver and kidney damage and all other sorts of problems if they are released into the blood stream.
Though Bayer commissioned two studies questioning the link between blood clots and Yaz birth control, the results were not necessarily conclusive. Yasmin users also report heart problems, cardiopulmonary problems, “crushing” chest pains and respiratory difficulties while taking Yaz.
Pain and Swelling in the Legs
One of the side effects to manifest for Yaz users is pain, tingling and swelling the legs and arms. These symptoms can be followed by dry and itchy skin, but the pain and swelling can become chronic.
Headaches and Migraines
Some Yaz users also report the rapid and chronic onset of intense headaches and severe migraines. They also report blurry vision, dizziness, double vision, and the complete loss of vision while taking Yaz birth control.
