Trapped in the Web

September 1, 2010 | Author: | Posted in Internet

There is no doubt that computers and the Internet available almost everywhere have changed our lives for better. Except many various advantages they have brought to make our lives easier they have also had a huge impact on the social sphere of life. For those who are particularly shy or who, for other reasons find it hard to communicate with others it is a real blessing. Thanks to the Internet they are now able to meet new friends online or even find love and start relationships. The fact that everything happens first on a virtual ground gives the people with low self confidence courage to express their feelings and avoid personal failure that usually scares them so much in real life.

But as much as it helps them in their lives it can also become a very dangerous trap. It doesn’t happen to all of the shy people. Some of them eventually meet personally the ones they met online and start friendships and relationships on a real ground. Unfortunately those who are extremely shy tend to go the other direction and even make their situation worse. After feeling so good on the other side of the screen they often want to keep things this way. Once they discover that it is somehow possible to have life without even leaving the house they start to live in their virtual world.

There is nothing wrong in relationships that start online but there has to come a moment when the couple finally meets. Shy people are very afraid that once they see each other in reality the feeling will immediately disappear. They feel confident only once they are online. It’s wrong to think this way. We usually know already how the person looks because either we exchanged photos or we talked via webcam. We also probably feel good talking to them online if we still care for them. In that case meeting them in reality can only be nicer!

Another thing is that people who spend most of their time online start to live only online and that’s what is very dangerous. They slowly start doing everything using the Internet. They don’t go shopping anymore because they can buy everything using the Web, they stop meeting their friends because they can either e-mail them or chat with them whenever they want. They close themselves in their virtual world and don’t feel the need to go anywhere. The longer it lasts the harder it gets to finally leave the house when they have to. And such moment comes sooner or later. If it is not a visit at the doctor then taking their broken equipment to a computer repair Miami or New York service. Sometimes the situation gets so bad that the only way to change it is to use professional help of a psychologist.

The Internet can be addictive like most of things in this world. For those with strong characters and a lot of things going on in their lives it is rather safe. But those who don’t have that much to do and most of all are very shy and have problems with dealing with reality can easily lose control.
