April 28, 2010 | Author: | Posted in Business Management

The Canary Islands Special Zone was authorised by the European Commission in January 2000 and extended in December 2006. The Spanish Government subsequently adapted the regulations concerning the ZEC contained in the Canary Islands Economic and Fiscal Regime, in accordance with the terms of the corresponding authorisations (Title V of Law 19/1994, as amended by Royal Decree-Law 12/2006 and implemented by Royal Decree-Law 1758/2007).

The Consortium of the Canary Islands Special Zone (ZEC) is a joint body created by the central Spanish Government and the Canary Islands Regional Government under the auspices of the Ministry of Finance. It is responsible for supervising and advising ZEC Entities and for promoting and providing the services required for the appropriate functioning of the Special Zone and the entities included within it. The Consortium is also responsible for maintaining the Official ZEC Register (ROEZEC).

The ZEC Consortium will undertake the necessary procedures to grant the corresponding authorisations and to subsequently register companies in the ROEZEC.

In addition to its administrative tasks, the Consortium will provide, for all interested parties and ZEC Entities, the necessary human and material resources to assist with the viability of business projects within the ZEC.
